Honey, Cinnamon & Arthritis – Aug 2019

Arthritis is inflammation; therefore, it makes sense that an anti-inflammatory will help ease the pain. I have read many articles on the benefits of eating honey and cinnamon every day, twice a day, to help in the management of arthritis and have a couple of clients who do this and have noticed a difference themselves. Obviously, I cannot make any guarantees but I love hearing how natural remedies work and wouldn’t hesitate to give it a try.

Honey is used to treat arthritis pain due to its natural anti-inflammatory properties and healing power. It reduces joint inflammation and provides a natural form of pain relief. The phytonutrients in honey are responsible for its antioxidant properties, as well as its antibacterial and antifungal power. They’re also thought to be the reason raw honey has shown immune-boosting and anticancer benefits. Honey is also thought to be a sleep aid, a memory booster, a natural aphrodisiac, a treatment for yeast infections and a natural way to reduce plaque on your teeth.

Cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory properties and is loaded with antioxidants. Cinnamon may help treat neurodegenerative diseases and protect against cancer. Some have also suggested that cinnamon may be a natural treatment for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), premenstrual syndrome (PMS), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and food poisoning. A 2008 study published in “Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry” looked at the use of cinnamon and its possible effects on bone disease and damage as a result of rheumatoid arthritis. This bone damage is caused by increased activity by cells known as osteoclasts that break down bones for resorption. The study showed that cinnamon slowed the activity and reduced bone damage.

People of many cultures have been using honey and cinnamon to treat many different health issues for centuries. Some of these include arthritis, bladder infections, high cholesterol, colds, upset stomach, gas, indigestion, pimples, skin infections, fatigue, cancer, and even hearing loss. One cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder combined with regular massage may make a huge difference in your health and battle with arthritis.
